How to navigate this site
This site is organized as a hierarchical organization of single-topic pages. Each page will address only one very specific topic (for example an embellishment), and these pages are organized from a broad-to-specific hierarchical structure (Figure 1). Additionally, there are page-to-page links to related topics that are not necessarily within the same hierarchical line (e.g. Gracenotes+Strikes -> G gracenote), as well as links to external references.

This structure allows the site to be navigated in multiple ways. A traditional approach to learning would be to address topics in a general-to-specific order, where for example all the embellishments are learned before attempting a tune (Figure 2).

The traditional approach has it's benefits and has certainly passed the test of time. Nevertheless, instructors come upon multiple learning styles, and non-traditional approaches are often needed. Inspired by the Suzuki Method, this site also allows for an iterative learning approach that will cover specific topics and apply it directly into a tune. As the learner conquers more complex rudiments, so do the tunes become more complex (Figure 3).

This site additionally allows for ad hoc navigation, where an instructor can select a specific order of topics, and refer to these pages via a list of hyperlinks (Figure 4). Such list can be part of this site, or an external source (another site or an email). For example, the KTA syllabus page is built for an annual event for beginner pipers.
